Downtown historical center in Pombaline Lower Town, near “Terreiro do Paço” and the Tagus river. This area is defined as “consolidated historic center” with medium high buildings dating hundred years ago (rebuild from the big earthquake of 1755), generally occupied by offices (banks, insurances) and public institutions. Dates the 19th century and is built with “Pombaline Cage Technique” (1st examples of earthquake-resistant construction). Has 6 floors; 1 basement and 5 upper levels for offices.
